Lawrence Eugene Winter & Eunice Mae (Kahmeyer) Winter
Lawrence Winter was born June 12, 1927, at Wellington, Kansas, the eldest
of four children, two boys and two girls, born to Walter and Matilda (Naasz)
Winter. His father is deceased and his mother lives at Hilltop Manor in
Cunningham, Kansas. Lawrence was baptized July 10, 1927, in St. John's
Lutheran Church, Nashville, Kansas, by the Reverend P.G. Krause and confirmed
April 18, 1943, by the Reverend Oscar Mueller.
Eunice (Kahmeyer) Winter was born January 15, 1930, at Isabel, Kansas, the
fifth child of a family of nine girls and one boy born to Ernest and Malinda
(Hellman) Kahmeyer Jr. Her parents and one sister are deceased. Eunice was
baptized January 26, 1930, in St. John's Lutheran Church and confirmed April
18, 1943, by the Reverend Oscar Mueller.
Lawrence and Eunice were married on Sunday, September 19, 1948, in St.
John's Lutheran Church by the Reverend Herman Seyfert.
They are the parents of four children. Connie Sue was born July 21, 1949;
Kenneth Eugene, March 22, 1961; Londa Jayne, July 24, 1964; and Timothy
Wayne, January 10, 1968. Connie was baptized at St. John's and the other
children were baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church, Medicine Lodge, Kansas.
All the children were confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church.
Connie owns her own business, Legal Support Services, Inc., in Wichita,
Kansas. Ken is Chief of Police in Tyrone, Oklahoma. Londa is a medical
technologist and employed at HCA Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas.
Tim is owner of Winter Appliance Service in Medicine Lodge, Kansas.
Lawrence and Eunice have six grandchildren. The three grandsons are
Matthew Swiggart, married to Melissa Cooper; Dustin Winter and Cory Lutgen.
The two granddaughters are Joclyn Winter and Lacy Winter. They have one
step-grandson, Mark Hembree.
Lawrence and Eunice both belong to Walther League and taught Sunday School
at St. John's. They moved from Kingman to Medicine Lodge in March 1953 and
continued to work in St. John's until they transferred their membership from
St. John's to Trinity Lutheran in 1958 when the church body was organized
in Medicine Lodge. The new church building was dedicated October 30, 1966.
With the Grace of God and the help of members from St. John's, the church
will celebrate thirty-five years of service this coming year.
Lawrence and Eunice both taught Sunday School for a number of years and
served in various positions in the church. At the present time Lawrence is
an elder of the church and president of the Men's Club. Eunice is secretary
of the Women of Trinity.
Lawrence and Eunice make their home in Medicine Lodge, Kansas. Lawrence
is semi-retired and works part time at Winter Appliance Service, a business
he owned and operated until this year when their son, Tim, took over the
business.
