Walter Herman Winter & Mathilda (Naasz) Winter
Walter Winter was born January 18, 1904, at Alma, Missouri. He was one
of nine children born to William John and Elizabeth Anna (Bargfrede) Winter.
Mathilda (Naasz) Winter was born October 17, 1907, in Logan County, Kansas.
She was one of seven children born to Andrew and Maria (Schauber) Naasz.
Walter and Tillie were married October 5, 1925, at the Lutheran Parsonage
in Kingman, Kansas, by Pastor George Jilg.
To this union five children were born, three sons and two daughters. One
son, Orville Lee, died in infancy. Lawrence married Eunice Kahmeyer and had
four children. Louise Smith had one son, Roger Krause. Leon married Shirley
Hodson and had five children. Rosalee is married to Melvin Goertzen and
they have four children.
Walter and Tillie's children were all baptized and the eldest three were
confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church at Nashville, Kansas.
Walter worked at different jobs; among them were farming, U.S. forestry,
WPA, and as a plumber at Turon, Kansas. When he suffered a heart attack,
they moved to Medicine Lodge, Kansas, and became members of Trinity Lutheran
Church.
Walter died February 4, 1972, in the Medicine Lodge Memorial Hospital. He
was laid to rest in the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery at Nashville, Kansas.
Since November 1991, Tillie has made her home at Hilltop Manor at
Cunningham, Kansas. Tillie has four children, two daughters-in-law and a
son-in-law, fourteen grandchildren and twenty-five great grandchildren.
Walter and Tillie celebrated their forty-fifth wedding anniversary with
family and friends in October, 1970.
Tillie celebrated her eighty-fifth birthday October 17, 1992.
