William James Yearta & Gladys Elaine (Voss) Yearta
Gladys Elaine Voss was born February 15, 1949, the fourth daughter of Carl
and Anita Voss of Cunningham, Kansas. She was baptized on March 20, 1949, by
Pastor Herman Seyfert and was confirmed on April 12, 1963, by Pastor Paul
Amen at St. JOhn's Lutheran Church, Nashville, Kansas.
Gladys attended St. John's Lutheran College, Winfield, Kansas, from 1967-
1969, where she earned her AA degree. She then attended Pratt Community
College, Pratt, Kansas (1969-1970) and Fort Hays Kansas State college, Hays,
Kansas (1970-1972), graduating with a BSN degree. She joined the U.S. Army
in September 1970 as a student nurse. After graduation, she served in the
Nurse Corps at several locations prior to Ft. Gordon, Georgia, where she
met her future husband.
William (Bill) James Yearta was born at Miner Hill, Tennessee, on May 2,
1948, son of William and Vivian Yearta. The family moved to Florida in 1961
where Bill attended high school and junior college. He completed his
education at Southern College of Optometry, Memphis, Tennessee, with an OD
degree in 1972. He was assigned to Ft. Knox, Kentucky, then to Ft. Gordon,
Georgia.
Bill and Gladys were married September 27, 1976, in Frankfurt, West Germany,
where they were assigned early in 1976.
Denise Daniella Yearta was born September 30, 1978, and baptized November
8, 1978, in Frankfurt, West Germany. Since there was no formal English-
speaking Lutheran congregation in Frankfurt, her membership was recorded at
St. John's Lutheran in Nashville, Kansas.
James Frederick Yearta was born November 1, 1979, and baptized July 20,
1980, by Pastor Calvin Beverly at St. John's, Nashville.
Gladys, Denise and James transferred their membership to Trinity Lutheran
Church, Leesville, Louisiana, in 1989. Denise was confirmed April 12, 1992,
by Pastor Bill Roten.
In addition, both Bill (1972) and Gladys (1970) have retired from the
Army. The family has recently moved to Winter Haven, Florida, where they
attended Grace Lutheran Church.
