Orville Bell and his wife Elta Westrup Bell moved from a farm near
Talamage,Kansas to a farm three miles north of Woodbine in 1931. For Elta
this was a return to the area where she was born and spent her elementary
school years. Orville and Elta had three children, Neva, Orin and Willis,
who attended Lyona school district #1 and graduated from Woodbine High
School in the classes of 1936, 1939 and 1945.
Farming was Orville and Elta's primary life occupation, but both
enjoyed involvement in community activities. Orville served on both Lyona
and Woodbine school boards for a number of years. He enjoyed music, played
several instruments, taught some, but the violin was his favorite instrument.
He directed and played with the Lyona Orchestra and Band, which was made up
of others in the community who also enjoyed music.
Orville and Elta were life long members of the United Methodist Church.
Both were active, Orville directing choir and teaching Sunday school classes
and Elta with United Methodist Women and WCTU work.
In 1964 Orville and Elta sold their farm north of Woodbine and bought a
home in Abilene, Kansas, where they retired from farming but not from church
  and community activities.
Orville passed away April 9, 1977 and Elta November 14, 1981. Interment
at Woodbine Cemetery beside their son, Willis, who passed away June 12, 1958.
