Alvin Brenner Family
In 1918 Alvin and Marie Zoschke Brenner settled in their new farmstead
home seven miles northeast of Woodbine in the Lyona community. Their three
children, Gladys, Kenneth and Merle attended and graduated from Lyona District
No. 1 rural grade school and Woodbine High School. Alvin served for a time on
the Lyona school board.
They were actively involved and life-time members of the Mt. Zion Baptist
Church of Junction City.
Alvin was a farmer-stockman. Before and during the 20's he fattened
numerous loads of cattle and drove them to the rail yard in Woodbine to be
shipped to the Kansas City market.
The Brenner family moved to Rock Springs Ranch in 1937 operating this
farm until 1946 when its owner, C.E. Rugh of Abilene, sold the ranch to the
Kansas 4-H Foundation. After spending several years farming in the Skiddy
area, Alvin and Marie moved to a home in Woodbine in 1953. A few years later
Alvin retired from farming, and he and Marie enjoyed living and gardening in
Woodbine until 1967 when they moved to the Lutheran Home in Herington.
Shortly thereafter Alvin died at age 88 preceeding Marie who lived to
95.
They loved their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and
enjoyed war relationships with many valued friends of the Lyona and Woodbine
communities.
