William Frank Brussow
William Frank Brussow was born in 1865, north of Woodbine, the son of William
and Mina Ollhoff Brussow. He had four sisters. Mary Wilhelmina Krause was born
in Germany in 1880, the oldest of the ten children of August and Wilhelmina
Thome Krause. The family came to America when she was four years old. W.F.
Brussow and Mary W. Krause were married in 1897 and reared five children. The
oldest Malinda, married A.E. Cheyney, an oil geologist in Wichita. They had two
sons. Kathryn and her husband, Ted Richardson, farmed in Tennessee. They had
three children. Bessie's husband, Carl Ehrlich was a grocery store manager. They
had one daughter. Wilma made her home with a family in Wichita. She had worked
in the drug store in Woodbine before going to Wichita. William Otis (Sonny) was
W.F. and Mary's youngest child. Mr. and Mrs. W.F. Brussow built and lived in
the home now occupied by the Milton Gunters. Mr. Brussow was a janitor at the
Woodbine Methodist Church. He died July 21, 1931 just five days after the death
of his mother.
After the death of her husband, Mary Brussow sold her home to C.J. Mann. She
and her son William Otis (Sonny) returned to the farm. Later she moved back to
Woodbine and lived there until her death in 1953. She cooked school lunches at
the Woodbine school for several years. Mr. and Mrs. W.F. Brussow were faithful
members of the Woodbine Methodist Church. They were civic minded and supported
the community endeavors.
