Max C. Engel, his wife, Ida, and their children, Mildred and Charles, came
  to Woodbine in October 1926. Max was born a few miles southwest of Woodbine in
  August 1887. Max passed away in November 1962.
       Mrs. Engel, Ida, was born east of Woodbine in August 1888. She now resides
  at Chapman Valley Manor, Chapman, Kansas.
       Max C. Engel purchased the hardware and implement business in 1926 from 
  the Danielson family. Mr. Engel operated this business until 1960. It was then
  the Pioneer Equipment Company until 1964, when it was discontinued. This
  business, besides hardware, sold International Harvester farm equipmant. In his
  earlier years Max also offered plumbing and well service.
       Their children were Mildred and Charles. Mildred (Mrs. Kermit Westrup) was
  born southeast of Woodbine in October 1911. Mildred passed away in August, 1985.
       Their son, Charles, was also born southwest of Woodbine in January, 1915. 
  Charles lives in Manhattan Kansas.
