Hubert Farres
Hubert (H.L.) Farres came to Woodbine from Hannibal, Missouri in the early
1900's. His profession was carpentry and he helped to build and remodel many
buildings in this community, as well as in Junction City. He met Esther Krause,
the daughter of August and Wilhemina Thome Krause. They married in 1912. Ten
children were born to this union. Three of these children have made their home
in Woodbine. Lillis Farres and wife Bonnie have owned and operated the Farres
Station since buying it in a partnership with his brother Adair in 1946 from
Godfrey Aebi. Adair was killed in an industrial accident in 1966. Adair was
married to Roselyn, a daughter of Art and Alice (Mitsch) Volkman. Four other
family members married Woodbine residents. Charmaine married Eldon, son of C.W.
and Minnie (Hiebert) Oesterreich. Oneda married Paul L., son of Paul J. and
Anna (Timm) Jahnke. These two families have made their homes in Woodbine.
Mitchell (Scotty) married Delores, a daughter of Reynold and Vera (Langhofer)
Schlesener. They live in Salina, Kansas. Joan married Charles, the son of
Arnold and Vivian (Livengood) Roehrman. They reside in Kanapolis, Kansas. The
oldest son of H.L. and Esther - Dyas - and family live in Latimer, Kansas. A
daughter, Olga, died of cancer in 1956. Two other daughters - Opal and Rose -
reside in Tulare, California.
