John and wife, Frildo came from Iowa to Woodbine in a mover wagon arriving
October 24, 1873 just before the grasshopper invasion.
This incident has been told. John left his jacket hanging on a pitch fork
handle one evening. The next morning, all that was left of the jacket was the
buttons and the heavy seams. The hoppers had consumed the jacket. In four days,
all the leaves on the trees had been eaten of except one variety. The fork
handle had holes gnawed in it.
They resided on a farm 3 miles west of Woodbine on West Branch Creek. It
was here they reared a family of four children.
Clara later married Joseph Shields, January 25, 1887, in her parents home.
They reared a family of 6 sons and 5 daughters.
John Peter IV married Jenny May Rudd, September 27, 1898, near Woodbine.
They had one daughter, Vera. May died in 1910 and John in 1956. Both are buried
  in the Woodbine Cemetery.
Dora married William Wade in 1891. They reared 6 children.
Fannie, who was born October 1, 1876, near Woodbine married Orville Duvall,
  May 30, 1895. They reared 3 sons.
John and Frildo continued to live on their farm until their retirement in
October, 1898, moving to Herington, Kansas.
