Fred E. Feyerabend
Fred e. Feyerabend was born December 14, 1887 in a sod house north of
Barnes, Kansas. Bertha Davis was born December 24, 1887 on a farm near
Hollenberg, Kansas. On April 20, 1910 they were married. On April 1, 1924 they
moved from Beaver, Kansas to Woodbine where they had purchased a hardware store.
Fred later added radios and refrigerators to the hardware line. After he sold
the store he did electrical work and was lineman and bookkeeper for the
Woodbine Telephone Company. He served as Justice of the Peace, city clerk and
school board member. They Feyerabend children; Wayne, Ernest and Mildred attended
the Woodbine school and graduated from Woodbine High School
During World War II, Fred worked for Boeing in Wichita until he was
appointed Woodbine Postmaster in April, 1943. He retired at age 70. Mrs.
Feyerabend died November 17, 1960. Fred continued to live in the family home
until ill health forced him to enter a nursing home. He died October 2, 1980.
Wayne married Mildred Blair. They owned and operated the Western Auto
Store in Herington until their retirement. They live in Salina.
Ernest is retired from Boeing and lives in Anacortes, Washington. He
married Melba Vernon. They had three children; Sandra, Patricia, and Robert.
After Melba's death, he married Tillie Schwahn. They had twin daughters, Doris
and Delores. Tillie is deceased.
Mildred married Melvin Williamson. They are retired and live in Woodbine.
They have two sons, Jon and James.
