Allen and Brenda (Fells) Fransen
Brenda was born December 24, 1961; the youngest daughter of Jim and
Phyllis Fells.
She attended the Woodbine school until the 7th grade. At that time
the school closed the junior high and she transfered to Chapman Junior High.
Brenda has many fond memories of growing up in Woodbine. One being the
many animals we had. Her black shetland pony "Prince", our two dogs, "Freckles
and Lassie" and her raccoon "Lucky" often went with her on the Salina Journal
paper route that she delivered for five years.
We also raised a calf, goat, lamb, rabbits, chickens, pigs, two cats,
gerbils and a bird. Now I ask you where else could you have that many animals
and still live in town. Brenda collected the dog tag money for the city because
she knew almost every dog by name in Woodbine and the city council felt that
every dog owned would be contacted. On Sunday afternoons when time permitted
Brenda and her Dad liked to take the canoe down on Lyons Creek to fish and
float.
Brenda graduated from Chapman High School in 1980. She worked a short
while in Junction City at Jean Junction. In December 1980 she left Woodbine
and moved to Grand Junction, Colorado to work with race horses.
She met Allen and they were married in August 1984. Allen now works in a
dairy and Brenda works in a factory making micro-chips.
They like to hunt, fish, camp and enjoy the great outdoors that she grew
up loving.
