Joseph A. Garrett
Joseph A. Garrett, son of Andrew and Rose Garrett, was born June 14, 1872
in Flora, Illinois. When he was a young man he moved with his parents to
Woodbine, Kansas.
On November 28, 1897, he married Mae Glover in Faulkner, Kansas. They
moved to a farm north of Hope, Kansas and he worked for Grant Gillett for $30
a month with a team.
Their children were Joseph Clayton, born January 24, 1899; Ray, born
March 21, 1901; and Meryl Allen, born September 10, 1921.
After Joe and his sons, Clayton and Ray, had typhoid fever he was not able
to do much work so he sold his 160 acres and bought 80 acres, all north of Hope.
When he sold this he bought the farm near Woodbine. Son, Ray, and wife, Olive,
still live on this farm, having retired in 1969.
The thrid son, Meryl, was born at Woodbine. He now lives in Lebanon, Oregon.
