Reed Garrett
The Garretts were married in 1952 at which time Reed was stationed at a
naval air station at Alameda, California, and Marge was teaching school at
Sawyer, Kansas.
After being discharged from the Navy in 1954, they moved to Lebanon,
Oregon where Reed worked at a laminating plant.
Reed's dream of returning to Kansas to farm was fulfilled in the fall of
1955 when Lowell Middleton offered him a job and a home located one mile west
and one and one-fourth miles south of Woodbine. We had a bumper crop that year
on the farm when we were blessed with the birth of twin daughters, Roann and
Rosann, born in May of 1956.
In 1959 we moved to Woodbine where Reed took a job as a bus driver and
janitor of the Woodbine school.
Our third daughter, Jenise, was born in February of 1961. The three girls
attended the Woodbine Grade School and later graduated from Hope High School.
They also graduated from Kansas State University and all three chose to enter
the teaching profession.
Roann married Phil Brockmeier and they live west of Herington. They have
a son and a daughter. Rosann is now Mrs. Jim Otte, and she and Jim live south
of Herington with their two children, a girl and a boy. Jenise is teaching
second grade at Inman and lives on a dairy farm with her husband, Stan Ediger.
At the present time Marge is teaching at the Hope Jr. High. Reed is
engaged in a partnership farming operation with his brother, Rowe. Their
favorite hobby is restoring antique "Oliver" tractors.
