Rowe Garrett Family
Rowe Garrett brought his wife, Margaret and her three children, Tamara 9,
Aaron 7 and Amy 5 to Woodbine in 1969. Rowe had bought the house and lots at
the corner of Fifth and Chicago where the Nazarene Church had been and they
made their home in the former parsonage. In 1973 they moved to a farm 2 1/2
miles south of Woodbine which was known as the Henry Tobaben farm, originally
owned by Boggs.
Rowe, born in Herington, 1933, moved to Woodbine with his parents, Ray and
Olive, brothers, Vern, Reed, Willis and sister, Phyllis. He attended school
there throught 12th grade. In 1954, he moved to Lebanon, Oregon with his parents
and worked in a paper mill. In 1959, he returned with his parents to the home
place in Woodbine, where he bacame involved in farming. Margaret, born in
Seminole, Oklahoma, 1936, to Howard and Huetta Rockhold, brothers James, Bill
and Howard Jr. and sister Helen. Howard Sr. retired as a district superintendent
with Gulf Oil. Margaret teaches learning disabilites at White City, Hope and
Herinton High.
In 1979, Yoko Koike, Nagoya, Japan, came to live a month with the family.
In 1981, Meng Lee Chew, Malaysia, lived with them for a year. Rowe and Margaret
are both active in the United Methodist Church of Woodbine. Rowe is active in
Lions Club and continues to farm in partnership with his brother, Reed.
