Duane and Helen Gugler
Duane and Helen moved to Woodbine in 1949, shortly after their marriage
on May 229, 1949. Duane was the son of Harvey and Jennie Gugler, who lived
about 4 miles north of Woodbine. Helen was the daughter of Lee and Bessie
Boggs of Ellsworth, Kansas. Duane was born November 21, 1923. Helen was born
April 10, 1928.
Duane and Helen are the parents of two daughters, Sharon, born January 9,
1952, and Brenda, born August 11, 1954. Sharon is married to Stevan Cooper.
They live in Chase, Kansas and have twin daughters, Shelley and Susan, born
January 31, 1984. Brenda is married to Jim Kerr and they have two children, a
daughter Crystal, born December 23, 1977, and a son Jade, born June 18, 1979.
They live in Concordia, Kansas.
Duane and Helen lived in Woodbine for eight years between 1949 and 1957.
In 1957 they moved to their present home 9 miles north of Woodbine. They
belonged to the Woodbine Methodist Church while living in Woodbine. Helen was
a member of the Nocturne Club. Duane was a charter member and is a current
member of the Woodbine Lions Club. He was the marshall of Woodbine for several
years.
During the time the Guglers lived in Wodbine, Duane farmed and was a sales-
man for the Ford dealership in Herington. He continued farming after moving
from Woodbine. Duane has operated Gugler Sales, a used car business based in
Woodbine for the past ten years. Helen has worked as a social worker for Kansas
Social and Rehabilitation Services for 27 years.
Duane is a graduate of Chapman High School and the Missouri Auction School.
Helen is a graduate of Ellsworth High School and Tabor College at Hillsboro.
