Martin Hettenbach
Frederick Martin (Mart) Hettenbach was born September 16, 1861, in
Evansville, Indiana, and died April 29, 1923, in Dickinson County, Kansas.
He came to Kansas before 1884. He worked for William F. Gugler and married
Louisa (Lulu) Delker who was raised by the Guglers. Lulu was born October
29, 1876, to Cord Heinrich Simon Delker and Louisa Muller, her mother dying
at her birth. Lulu died December 18, 1941.
Mart and Lulu were married on March 26, 1895, and continued to farm
the Gugler land. They bought the farm in 1905. He was a proud American who
insisted his boys speak English, not German, in their home; his only outside
activity was his service to the Liberty Center School District where he
served as director from 1910 until his death.
Mart and Lulu had five sons; William married Velma Winslow and second
Frances Schmidt. They have one daughter, Patricia Ann.
Harvey married Elizabeth Westrup and had four children; Dale, who
married Elaine Martsolf, they have three daughters. Lowell, who married
Helen Smith, they have five children. Warren, who married Redella Timm,
and they have four children. Warren is deceased. Gladys, who married Loren
Peck, they have two children.
Samuel married Dora Timm and they have a son Dewain. Son Laverne died
in the service of his country.
Elmer married Elda Rohloff. They have four children. Their family is
in this book.
Milton married Lora Rohloff (sister to Elmer's wife) and they had two
sons: Robert and Royal. Royal is deceased.
