John and Orpha Hooge
Orpha Brenner and Joen E. Hooge, Munich, North Dakota, were married March
18, 1944, in the Mt. Zion Baptist Church north of Lyona while John was on
furlough. He was stationed in Centerville, Mississippi, with the 150th General
Hospital serving as assistant to the chaplain.
In July 1944, John was sent to the South Pacific where he served in New
Guinea and the Philippines. Orpha taught the Fairview and Carry Creek Schools
during his absence. After his discharge from the Army John completed his
collete and seminary training.
John pastored Baptist churches in Wellsville and Fort Scott, Kansas, and
since 1960 John and Orpha have lived in the Kearney, Nebraska area where he
has served as pastor of several churches.
Orpha completed college and for twelve years was a cataloger in the Kearney
State College Library, retiring in 1980.
Their children are: Donald, Coeru D.Alene, Idaho; John R. and David,
Lawrence, Kansas; and Carol O'Neill, Axtell, Nebraska. Grandchildren are Jenea
and John-David Hooge and Broke O'Neill.
Don is not married; JOhn R. married Claudia Helm; David married Pat Temm,
and Carol married Paul J. O'Neill.
John and Orpha live in Juniata, Nebraska.
