Rheinhold Jahnke
Rheinhold Jahnke came to Woodbine in 1895 with his parents, Mr. and Mrs.
August Jahnke. He was better known as Rhiney to most people. In his earlier
years, he was a carpenter with his brothers, Paul and Richard. They he bought
and sold cattle for a while. In the early twenties he started a meat market.
He butchered all his own meat. I think it was in the building along with the
hotel. Later he and Charles Obermeyer started a general merchandise store,
known as Obermeyer-Jahnke. It was in the old bank building on the east side of
Main Street. Rhiney and Alice Jahnke ran the store until his death in 1937,
and then Alice continued on until her death in 1942. Alice Issitt (Jahnke)
worked in a store before she was married. It was known as William Weber Jr.
This would have been in the early 1900's. Rheinhold and Alice were married in
1910. To htis union, three children were born: VErland, Genevieve, and Cecil.
Verland lives in Wichita, Genevieve lives in Soloman, and Cecil lives in
Arkansas.
