Richard Jahnke
Richard Lewis Jahnke, son of August and Bertha Jahnke, was born June 1,
1879 in Friedloff, Germany, and died February 16, 1960. He came to America
with his parents when he was two years old. They settled on a farm west of
Woodbine. He married Anna Brehm, October 16, 1901. She was the daughter of
Henry and Katherine Brehm, born September 17, 1878 east of Enterprise, and
died January 17, 1942 in Woodbine. Both are buried in Woodbine Cemetery.
Richard worked for many years on the Gillett Ranch. He farmed in the
area and then did carpenter work in Newton for a number of years before
returning to Woodbine. He was a good carpenter who was proud of his work.
He was very quiet, but he was a good steady worker. at his death, Richard had
a brother, Paul in Woodbine and a sister, Hattie Smith, in Cottonwood Falls.
The children of Richard and "Annie" were:
Adelaide who married Isaac Longhofer. They farmed near Navarre, and were
the parents of: Twila Wagner, Della Mae Diehl, Kenneth, Leland, and Delores
Schmidt.
Lillian married Henry Hill, a railroader in Newton.
Willard married Dorothy Smith. Willard was a farm laborer and a
carpenter. Their children are Dale and Faye.
Clinton married Myrtle Ward. Following his military service, he worked
for the City of Topeka.
Eunice married Solomon Riffel and they farm near Navarre. Their children
are: Nolan and lois McCully.
