Roy W. Johnson
Roy, son of William and Anna Johnson, was born in 1909 at Diamond Springs,
Kansas in 1911. Roy moved with his parents, brother and sisters to a farm south
of Woodbine. Roy attended school at Woodbine. After graduation, he worked in
Salina, later returning to operate the drug store in Woodbine. In 1931, Roy met
his future wife, Iva Rust, a graduate from Kansas State College, teaching in
Woodbine High School.
In January 1936 Roy started his career with the Citizens State Bank of
Woodbine. In May 1936 Roy and Iva were married in Denver, Colorado and
established their home in Woodbine. In 1940 their son, Ronald, was born. In
1943, Roy, Iva and Ronald moved to Wichita where Roy was employed at Boeing
Aircraft. Their daughter Sharon, was born in April 1944. In September 1944, the
family returned to Woodbine. Roy accepted the position of cashier and vice-
president at the Citizens State Bank which he held until his retirement in the
fall of 1975. Roy and Iva traveled after Roy's retirement until his death in
1984.
The family were members of the Woodbine Methodist Church. Ronald, a
graduate of KSU, was employed with an accounting firm for some years before
returning to woodbine to farm. Sharon, a graduate of ESC, is married to Fain
Price. They live in Derby, Kansas where Sharon teaches. Fain works for Beech
Aircraft in Wichita. Their children, Shane attends WSU, Carrie and Joshua
attend high school. Iva continues to make her home in Woodbine.
