Harold Jones and his wife, Mildred Longhofer, daughter of Ben and Lizzy
Longhofer, were married in 1942. They lived at White City until 1945 when they
moved two miles south of Woodbine. It was known as the Steed farm. He farmed
and had cattle and sheep. Harold did custom sheep shearing along with his
farming. This farm would flood a lot during heavy rains.
In 1960 Mildred became ill and passed away in the fall of 1961.
Their son, Gail, attended Woodbine schools and when he became eighteen
joined the Marines for three years. He served in Vietnam for thirteen months.
In 1966 Harold married Phoebe. She was an operator for United Telephone
Company in Junction City. She retired in 1973. In the fall of 1973 they bought
the F.O. Schmidt house in Woodbine. Harold kept farming until 1977.
After retiring they would go to Texas for two or three months each year,
doing this for seven years. Harold now does some gardening and works for
Senior Cetizens, taking care of the building in Woodbine.
After Gail returned from the service he worked in Colorado for thirteen
years. In 1980 he returned to the Woodbine community, making his home on his
  grandfather Longhofer's farm.
