Herman and Amanda Kickhaefer
Amanda Timm Kickhaefer was born February 4, 1912 near Woodbine. Her
parents were Louis and Sophia Peters Timm. Amanda attended Woodbine High
School and was a member of the 1928 girls' basketball team. She graduated
with the class of 1930. She was employed by the Woodbine Telephone Exchange.
It was located in what is now the Senior Citizens building and was managed
by Emma Diekmann.
Amanda has a 1912 poster of the stallion her father had for breeding
mares for a fee of $12.50. He also had a team of black horses which were
used to pull the black, flass windowed hearse. The horses were covered with
black fly nets with tassels. He sat upon a high seat on the top of the
hearse and would take the bodies to the cemetery. Her parents also had a
meat market in Woodbine. It was located where Arnie Roehrman's Barber Shop
was.
Amanda married Herman Kickhaefer October 17, 1937. They lived all
their married life on the same farm southeast of Woodbine. Herman passed away
February 1, 1987. Herman served on the Woodbine School Board, the Co-op
Elevator Board and coached baseball teams.
They have two sons. Gaylon married Carol Gillett. Gaylon and Carol have
four daughters and one son. Mark married Barbara Herpich. They have two sons
and two daughters.
