Carl and Marie Knopp
Carl Fredrick Knopp was born January 13, 1895. His father Karl F.E. Knopp,
died from being kicked by a horse when Carl was only four months old. He lived
with his mother and helped his brothers farm. He graduated from Liberty Center
School and attended Manhattan K-State in 1915, taking a short course in agriculture.
On October 17, 1918, he married Marie Albertine Oesterreich, born August
20, 1896, the oldest daughter of Frank C. and Minnie (Westrup) Oesterreich.
Karl and Marie moved to the Stickford farm at this time.
Marie attended grade school at Woodbine and graduated from Enterprise
Normal Academy and attended a Deaconess school in Cincinnati, Ohio. Marie
worked in the Shank and Hiebert Grocery Store before she married.
Carl enjoyed tilling the soil and striving to raise good livestock. He
served on the elevator board, school board, and Methodist Church board always
giving his best to anything he did.
Carl and Marie had two sons, Wayne Luverne, born February 12, 1922 and
Allen Reed, born January 23, 1924, died December 24, 1982. They always insisted
on regular attendance at the Woodbine Methodist Church. They lived on the same
farm until 1951 when they moved to make room for their youngest son, Allen, to
farm.
Carl died December 12, 1979. Marie is a resident of the Abilene Nursing
Center since August of 1978.
