Karl and Albertine Knopp
Karl Freidrick Erdman Knopp was born August 27, 1857 in Stargart, Germany.
Karl F. E. Knopp came to America with his parents in 1875. He married Albertine
Griedrieke Auguste Krueger March 14, 1883. Albertine was born in Wilhelminehoff,
Germany, April 22, 1862, and came to America with the Carl Fredreich Sellin
family in 1881. She worked in Junction City and helped a Mr. Asling in the Lyona
area. At this time she became acquainted with Karl Knopp. After they married
Karl and Albertine moved to a homestead in Liberty Township, where Herman
Knopp lived in later years, and built a house. They finished interior walls
during bad weather and winter months after the corn was shucked.
They were the parents of seven children: William Charles, born December
4, 1884, died November 17, 1931; Otto Johan, born December 17, 1886, died June
12, 1904; Herman August, born September 18, 1888, died September 18, 1973; Emma
Louise, born September 30, 1890, died July 31, 1983; Ella Wilhelmina born June
3, 1892, died November 25, 1938; Albertine, born January 23, 1894, died at birth;
and Carl Fredrick born January 13, 1895, died December 12, 1979.
Karl died May 6, 1895 after being kicked by a horse. After the other
children married, Albertine and son Carl moved to Woodbine and lived in the
house where Marjorie Rech now lives. Albertine died March 27, 1940. Both are
buried in the Lyona Cemetery, as are the children William, Otto, Albertine and
Ella.
