Herman Mitsch and fifteen farmers organized the Woodbine State Bank, capital
$10,000. Herman remained president until his death in 1915.
The Mitsch children and their cousin, Milt Gugler, later of Abilene, worked
in the bank. While there, Esther met Paul H. Knuth of Shadybrook. He was working
in the Weber Grocery and staying with his uncle and guardian, C.H. Koepke.
In 1908 Paul Knuth and Frank Smith of Abilene, purchased the Kandt Drugstore
in Herington. Knuth married Esther in 1910. They had three daughters.
Alice Mitsch also worked in the bank. She married Art Volkman and remained in
Woodbine her entire life. They had four children.
Eliza Mitsch, known for her piano playing, married Merle Palmer and lived on
a farm near Hope. They had two children.
Olivette Mitsch Paulus, born in 1900, is still very active and lives in
  Santa Paula, California.
Many programs of music were presented by the Mitsch Sisters.
During the 1920's the Mitsch brothers left Woodbine. George moved to Oregon,
Bill to California, and Charles to Texas.
