Charles M. Obermeyer
Charles Obermeyer came to Woodbine about 1914. He married Lillie Beckel in 1916
and they purchased a home in Woodbine. Charles was an auto mechanic and opened his
own garage in 1914 or 1915. Later his brothers William, Ed, and Herman joined him.
He also became part owner in a grocery store with Rainey Jahnke. This store was
located in the old Woodbine State Bank building.
In 1923 he moved his garage and auto business to Herington but kept his
residence in Woodbine. His brother, William, later took over this business. Charles
and his family moved to Abilene and he opened a business there in 1935. In 1940, he
closed his Abilene business and moved to Manhattan, working until 1942 when he moved
his family to Riverside, California. Charles died in 1960. Charles'wife, Lillie,
still lives in Califfornia.
Charles and Lillie had seven children. Raymond, born in 1917, graduated from
Woodbine High School. He lives in Riverside, California. Marinda, born in 1919, lives
in Riverside, California. Neoma, born in 1921, lives in Alamo, Texas. Darlene, born
in 1923, lives in Riverside, California. Allene, born in 1924, lives in Santa Maria,
California. Althea, born in 1927, lives in Bloomington, California. These children
were all born in Woodbine. Vickie, born in 1938 in Abilene, Kansas, lives in
Riverside, California.
