Hobart Porter
Hobart and Lola Porter with their four children, Arminta, Esther, Lawrence and
Robert, moved to Woodbine from Trenton, Missouri in August 1944. Hobart was a brake-
man for the Rick Island Railroad. They lived in the Godfrey Longhofer home. Rent was
ten dollars per month.
James was born in 1946, JOhn in 1947, and Jessie in 1948. Mary Longhofer was
with Lola during the birth of all three and named John after her husband.
In February 1949 they moved to Herington to be near the doctor and Hobart's work.
They will never forget their friends of Woodbine. Hobart died in 1983. Lola lives in
Herington.
Their children:
Arminta married Larry Bye. They live in Portland, Oregon and have two sons.
Esther married Harvey Weiant. They live in Colorado and have four children.
Lawrence was killed in an auto accident in 1958.
Robert married Janice Miester. They live in Hubbard, Iowa and have two daughters.
James married Constance Love and they have one daughter. He was a helicoptor
pilot in Vietnam and became president of Evergreen Helicopter in Alaska. He is now in
American Samoa and operates an airline between the islands.
John married Joyce Niemoller. He is a Vietnam veteran. They have four daughters
and live in Navarre, working for the elevator.
Jessie married Rayburn Hartke. They live in Colorado Springs, Colorado and have
two children.
