Ephra Riffel
In the spring of 1929 Ephra Riffel moved with his parents, Joseph and Mary Riffel,
To the Pine Belt Farm two miles west of Woodbine. He attended Walnut Grove Grade
School and Woodbine High School, graduating with the class of 1937.
In 1941 Nell Moore of Frederick, Oklahoma came to teach mathmatics and business
at Woodbine High School. She taught several years and was principal during World War
II.
On March 15, 1945 Ephra and Nell were married in the home where they have lived
for 42 years.
Ephra and Nell have been active in the community. Ephra serving on the Woodbine
Coop Elevator Board for twenty-four years, and the Woodbine Grade School Board for
two terms, the Liberty Township Board, the boardd of trustees of the Woodbine Methodist
Church and was a charter member of the Lion's Club.
Nell taught after marriage and also did substitute teaching. She taught Sunday
School and served on different boards and committees of the Woodbine Methodist Church.
She was a member of the Woodbine Study Club, EHU, and a 4-H project leader.
Ephra and Nell have two daughters. Barbara (Mrs. Carl Funston) of Abilene is a
teacher at Chapman Grade School. They have three children, Heath, Angela, and Amy.
Brenda (Mrs. Henry Dreier) of Olpe, Kansas. Brenda worked at St. May's Hospital and
nursing homes in Emporia. They have one son.
