Henry, Jr. and Agnes Rohloff
Henry (Hank) Rohloff, Jr. was born August 4, 1909 on a farm near Woodbine
and was the son of Clara (Rindt) Rohloff and Henry Rohloff, Sr. He was a
member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church at Shady Brook.
On April 1, 1934 he was united in marriage to Agnes Timm. Her birth date
was August 17, 1914. Her parents were Ida (Schlesener) Timm and Albert Timm
and she was born on what is known as the Timm farm one mile east of Woodbine.
Hank and Agnes were farmers living in the White City and Woodbine communities
before moving to Woodbine. They lived in the house which is now occupied by
Donna Slayton until the time of Hank's death in 1953.
Agnes was a graduate from the Woodbine High School with the class of 1932.
She is a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church at Shady Brook.
While residing in Woodbine, Agnes was a cook for several years in the
Woodbine school system and later worked at the Skipp Inn at Abiline as a cook.
At one time she was the operator of a creamery which was located in what is known
today as the Watershed building.
Later she purchased the old barber shop building from All Reich which was
located west of the old drug store building, our last grocery store after the
fire, and also the elevator warehouse storage building, next in line. It was
at that time that Agnes converted the barber shop into a pool hall and restaurant
of which she was proprietor and later operated by Freeman Livengood.
In 1950 she moved to Wichita to work as a cook at the Lassen Hotel for
19 1/2 years. Since then she has been doing voluntter work for the American Red
Cross.
