Frank W. Schmidt
Frank W. Schmidt was born February 8, 1885 near Woodbine to William and Amelia
Timm Schmidt. Frank and Mabel G. Layer were married on June 18, 1909 by Reverend
Wilson at the home of J.R. Kohler in Woodbine. Mabel was born June 20, 1882 at
Enterprise. Her parents were David and Elizabeth Kohler Layer.
Frank worked as a lineman for Kansas Power and Light Company for several years.
He was electrocuted while working on a light pole in Woodbine on September 25, 1919.
Frank and Mabel adopted two daughters, Frances Agnes and Ruth Elizabeth. They
both went to school in Woodbine and lived there until married.
In 1926 Mabel assumed the duties of postmaster of Woodbine. She held this
position until 1942 when she had to resign because of ill health. She passed away
June 26, 1942.
