Lousie Schmidt
Louise Schmidt was born August 22, 1891 on her parents' farm. She can remember
their house being built in Woodbine in 1911. Noah Martin from Abilene was the builder.
He also built the James Gillett house in the east end of town. They moved into the
house December 11, 1911. They moved all their furniture into town on a hay rack. They
moved into Woodbine as Henry was getting married.
Louise worked as telephone operator from the fall of 1911 until the spring of
1915. The telephone office then was a wooden building that stood where the bank is
now located. She also worked for later managers, one being the Langvardts, for a
number of years.
Louise took care of her parents until their deaths.
In August 1978 she sold her home in Woodbine and took up residency in the Good
Samaritan Home in Junction City, Kansas.
