John Shank
John Shank, the son of John and Mary Shank, was born February 20, 1879 in
Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. He moved with his parents to Detroit, Kansas at the
age of three weeks. He married Minnie Rudd October 31, 1906. She was the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. G.B. Rudd, the third child in the family of five. John worked for
the International Harvester Company for about twenty-five years. Mrs. Shank died
February 10, 1934 and is buried in the Woodbine Cemetery. They wer the parents of
two children: Alma and Allan.
Later John married Orpha McCoy Brown, widow of Fred Brown. They lived in
Woodbine where Lowell Middleton lives. John passed away July 16, 1941 and is
buried at Woodbine. He was the brother of Susie Meredith of Abilene, Abe and Ben
of Navarre, and E.L. Shank of Woodbine.
Orpha moved back to the home in Woodbine until 1981 when she moved to the
Lutheran Home in Herington. The Dolans live in the former Shank home.
