William John Shippy Family

       William John Shippy was born to Harvey and Margaret Shippy, March 18, 1938, at
  the family farm north of Woodbine. He attended Liberty Center School, graduated from
  Chapman High School and attended Sterling College. In July 1964, he married Nora
  Engel, daugher of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Engel. In April 1965, they moved to their
  present home north of Woodbine.
       To Bill and NOra five children were born: Charlotte, 1965, a junior at Ft. Hays
  State University; Kevin, 1967, a student at Beloit Vo-Tech; Darrell, 1969, senior Hope 
  High School; Patty, 1973, Hope Junior High School; and Brian William 1974, a sixth
  grader at Hope. All are, or have been, members of the Jolly Jayhawkers 4-H Club. The
  family attends the Woodbine United Methodist Church.
       Bill's great-grandparetns, Berzial and Elenor Shippy, came to Kansas from Michigan
  with their children in 1871. They homesteaded near Lyona. The farm where the Bill Shippy
  family now lives was purchased from the railroad in 1879 by Bill's grandfather, William
  Shippy. He built the house and developed the farm.
       The Shippys have farmed all their married life. Their farm is diversified with
  emphasis on cattle. The Bill Shippy family is proud to live on the farm that has always
  been in the family and hapy to be a part of the Woodbine community.
