Herman Steckel
Herman Steckel, son of William and Caroline Steckel, was born December 15, 1880 in
Germany. He came with his parents to America as a child.
Herman built the stone blacksmith shop and hardware just east of the Kohler Lumber
Company.
Herman married Pearle Howell from Emporia, Kansas. Pearls taught school in Woodbine.
They were married August 4, 1909 at Emporia. They built a home in the northeast part of
Woodbine.
In 1914 Herman and his family moved to Greenwood County, Kansas and farmed.
Their children were: Frieda May, who was born in Woodbine. She is deceased. Josephine
(Mrs. Clinton Frick), Durham, Kansas; Grace Pearle, Washington, D.C.; and Verman Arthur,
died in infancy.
Herman died January 15, 1952 at Quincy, Kansas.
