Kenneth E. Stout

Kenneth Eugene Stout was born October 15, 1947 to Willis E. and Evelyn J. Hull Stout
in Palo Alto, California. The family moved in 1948 to Denver and in 1952 Willis and his
father purchased the Beverly State Bank in Beverly, Kansas. In 1956 Willis sold the Beverly
Bank and purchased the First National Bank in Goodland. Ken graduated from Sherman County
High School in 1965. He attended Kansas State University for two years. In 1967 he was
drafted for the Vietnam War. He spent four years in the U.S. Navy and obtained the rank of
second class petty officer as a radioman. He spent two years in San Diego and two years in
Wiahiawa, Hawaii. Upon discharge from the Navy, Ken entered Fort Hays State College in Hays.
He started his banking career by working and living in Wakeeny, commuting to Hays for
  school. He graduated in 1973.
After graduating he married Kathleen Seuser. Ken then accepted a position with the
U.S. Treasury as a National Bank Examiner stationed in Cedar Falls, Iowa. In 1975 he had
a bicycle accident which almost took his life. It was during this month-long stay in the
hospital that the Citizens State Bank of Woodbine came for sale. Willis and an associate
negotiated a sales price on behalf of Ken. After much study and thought, Ken decided to
leave the Treasury Department and buy controlling interest in the Woodbine bank. Upon
arrival and examination, he found a very nice small bank and town. Total assets at that
time were about one million dollars. Today's assets total 5 million.
Over the last few years Ken has become involved in many varied activities. Some of
these include photography, flying, sailing, Lions Club and professional organizations. He
sits on the Woodbine City Council, the Kansas Bankers Association agricultural committee
and the KBA insurance committee. He has won many sail boat regattas and is nationally
ranked aerobatic competitor. Recently he won the World's Fair Expo 86 competiton in
Vancouver, Canada. Additionally he is a certified national aerobatic competition judge.
In 1983 Ken's father passed away and for a time Ken managed his father's bank for his
mother until she was able to sell the bank. Mrs. Stout still resides in Goodland. In
1983 Ken and Kathy divorced. Ken has one brother, James (Rusty) Stout, who resides in Mt.
Vernon, Iowa with his wife and son. Ken resides in the house formerly owned by Lillie
Shank. At present Ken continues to be president of the Citizens State Bank of Woodbine
and is co-founder of Stout and Deines, Inc., a bank management firm which does consulting
