Charlotte Westrup
Charlotte Westrup was born March 10, 1893 in the Woodbine community, the
daughter of Albert G. and Rebecca J. Westrup. She graduated from the Enterprise
Normal Academy in 1917, and received a certificate of nursing from the Wichita
Hospital in 1921. She served as a public health nurse in Wichita and Salina,
Kansas, and Cleveland, Ohio. After attending college in California, she
received a bachelor's degree in nursing. She entered the missionary field in
1927, and under the sponsorship of the Methodist Church was sent to India
where she served for 32 years.
Miss Westrup retired in 1958, and returned to Abilene, Kansas, to make
her home at 510 Northwest Sixth Street. She was a member of the First United
Methodist Church of Abilene, the Women's Society of Christian Service, the
Woodbine WCTU, the Twentieth Centry Club, and the Dickinson County Registered
Nurses Association.
She passed away June 12, 1973. She had a foster daughter, Mrs. Daniel
Joseph Massey of Dehru Dun, U.P., Indian.
Many of her relatives and friends alike knew her through the years simply
as "Aunt Lottie".
