Melvin Williamson
First Lieutenant Melvin Williamson and Mildred Feyerbend were married April
6, 1945. They lived in Battle Creek, Michigan until Melvin's retirement in
September 1945, when they returned to Woodbine. They purchased the Corner Store
from C. W. Hiebert. They sold it to Ernest Feyerabend when he was discharged from
the Army. After a few months, Ernest decided to moved back to Wichita to return
to work for Boeing. Melvin ran the store until it was again sold.
Mildrend is retired from the U.S. Postal Service. During over thirty years
of postal work, she was acting postmaster at Woodbine from September 1942 to April
1943 and also worked for the Junction City Post Office at Ft. Riley for two years.
Melvin is retired from Civil Service at Ft. Riley.
They have two sons, Jon and James. Jon and his wife Libby live in Wichita
and are teachers in the Wichita school system. Joh has a son, Olin Williamson;
a daughter, Laurie Sherbon; and a grandson, Michael Sherbon.
James and his wife, Mary, live in Wamego. They are both state police
officers at Kansas State University. They have Mary's three daughters, Becky,
Terri and Susan Schoen.
