Yes, I did attend a one-room schoolhouse in Kansas. As a matter of fact, I attended two. In my book, Memories of Gold, I talk about these two schools. I plan to send my book for copyright next week.

I was born in a farmhouse in Dickinson County, in May 1936, near Navarre, Kansas, and moved with my family to another farm three miles south of Enterprise, Kansas, when I was four. I attended first and second grade in a one room school house, Miller School District #43, located in the SE corner of Sect.5, Logan Township (this school was located on the southeast corner of our farm). It closed and I attended school in Enterprise from the third grade, until I was in the 7th grade. We moved from that farm south of Enterprise to another farm north of Chapman, Kansas, in the spring of 1949, where I again, attended another one-room school house. That school was Spring Valley School District #109 located in Fragrant Hill Township, in the SW corner of Sec. 31.

Last summer when I was researching material for my book, I visited the Heritage Center in Abilene, Kansas. Jeff Sheets is the Director. Twila Jackson also works at the Heritage Center. Both Mr. Sheets and Mrs. Jackson were very helpful in my research. Their phone number is (785) 263-2681. The reason I am telling you this is because when I was there, I saw a book that someone in the Abilene area wrote that talked about one-room school houses. This book included pictures, including pictures of the Spring Valley schoolhouse, and children attending, I believe in 1952. By then I was in high school in Chapman, Kansas.
