I was the one who sent you the two photos for your website of "Stringtown 1-room school house" located in Stilwell, Johnson Co., KS. I just found out about a lady who wrote a great book about all the old one-room school houses and some later schools of Johnson Co. KS. I called the author and I asked her if she had a photo in her book of the Stringtown school. She said she only could find a "painting" of it. I told her that I had two photos of it before it was torn down and will be sending copies to her soon. She is originally from Denmark and lives now in Stilwell. She was a volunteer in the Stilwell Elem. school library and discovered that there were no books about the early schools to teach the kids the history of their area. This is what got her interested.

I ordered the book and thought it was very worthwhile. My cousin in Kansas saw the newspaper article about her and the book and sent it to me. She really did her homework and wrote a great history beginning with how the people in the county came together to talk about building the first schools, what they were like etc. She interviewed many old-timers and others who had memories of going to these schools. There are lots of photographs of many of the one-room schools in Johnson Co. and stories and maps. Just thought you might be interested. I also sent your website to another lady who may be sending you some things about old one-room schools in Butler and Greenwood Counties in Kansas.
