In 1888, teacher Charles Holstein was paid
$247.50 for teaching for 22 weeks. The report also indicates he was
the only teacher and the school consisted of one room. He had 23
male students and 14 female students, but the average attendance for the males
was only 14 students per day and for the females 13.
These students lived in Linn County, very close
to the Bourbon County border near the town of Mantey, south of Mound
City.
I would be very pleased if you could add this information to the Kansas One
Room School House Project.
I do have copies of the lists of students in this school for all years
1882-1891 (except 1893) but have only typed up the ones for 1882 and
1885.
I also have a picture somewhere of a one room school house in this
vicinity, but I don't think it is the same school as the school number was
different.
