Cedar Ridge -- Anderson County

The Kansas Heritage Server would like to thank Shirley Roeckers for contributing this information.
Here is some history information in regard to Cedar Ridge School, District No. 44, Anderson County, Kansas.

Cedar Ridge was located in the Southwest corner of Sec. 28, Twp. 20, Range 19, Anderson County, Kansas. The school district was organized 2-24-1871, on land conveyed by William Hopkins & wife, with the school building being built about 1871, at the direction of Thomas Gowdy. Mr. Gowdy was on the school board, along with William Hopkins and J.F. Hunt. Lizzie Paul was the first teacher, with Hattie Brockett the 2nd year. In 1906 the school building was surrounded on 3 sides by elm and cedar trees. On 1/17/1908 the school was closed on account of smallpox scare. The Class of 1924 graduates were: Leona Citron, Bertha Collins, Merle Ferguson, Wilbur Ferguson & Floyd Hicks.

Here is another picture of an Anderson County School. This picture of Cedar Ridge School includes my husband, Richard Roeckers, and his brother, Henry Roeckers. If you have any problem, please advise.
