Four Corners, Gaffney -- Greenwood County

The Kansas Heritage Server would like to thank Maxine Gaffney Coughlin (mahcoughlin@tcworks.net) for contributing this information.

I have pictures taken in front of this school. My father and his brothers attended this school the 1915. He was born in 1909. Their names were Ralph and Lora Gaffney. Their fathers name was Rolland Gaffney and his father was Mathew Calhoun Gaffney. This school was named for this family.

These are pictures of the Four Corners School taken in the 1920's. The top picture is students that attended. The two boys dressed in overalls are Lora and Ralph Gaffney. Maybe someone can identify the others. The bottom picture is Pete Short taking Lora, Ralph and Harold Gaffney to school at Four Corners.

The pictures that I sent to you were of the Gaffney or Four Corners School located in Janesville Township, west of Hamilton, Kansas. I will resend them to you. The picture of the sled are students at the school and the other was taken in front of the school. Pictures were probably taken about 1916.

The Kansas Heritage Server would like to thank Roberta Mann (bobbie@ici.net) for posting this message to Kansas-L 14-JAN-1997.
