But, you didn't mention that this school house was also where the Christmas program was held and Santa Claus visited shortly before Christmas -- to check in to see that all the boys and girls were being good, to leave them one present (supplied by their parents, I found out later) and a bag of hard candy with an orange.
When I was a child in the mid 1940s, we had started attending church in town (Anthony, Harper Co., KS), but still attended some community Sunday School functions - wonderful potluck dinners and Christmas programs - at the Silver Creek School.
