1.  JAMES1 ALLEN was born 1772 in Staunton, Augusta County, Virginia, and died 
    1840. He married ANNA COLLIER January 20, 1794 in Pittsylvania county 
    Virginia, daughter of JOHN COLLIER.

2.  JAMES ALLEN2 JR. (JAMES1 ALLEN) was born October 07, 1807 in Franklin County,
    Virginia.  He married (1) ANNA COLLIER April 08, 1829, daughter of JOHN 
    COLLIER.  He married (2) NANCY ADAMS 1866.

3.  WILLIAM H.3 ALLEN (JAMES ALLEN2 JR., JAMES1 ALLEN) was born December 21, 
    1812 in Franklin County,  Virginia, and died December 27, 1893 in Allen 
    Cemetery, Ice Creek, Lawrence County, Ohio.  He married (1) LUCRETIA ALFORD,
    daughter of JOHN ALFORD and MARGARET WILSON.  He married (2) MATILDA 
    PATTERSON.

Notes for WILLIAM H. ALLEN:
William was born in Franklin County, Virginia.  Came to lawrence County, Ohio 
when about 12 years old, with his parents.  Trip was made with one horse which 
the mother rode, with father and William walking.  (Refer to memories by John 
L. Allen).  William died at his home on Ice Creek, Lawrence County, Ohio. He 
was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church.  He is buried in the Allen 
Cemetery, Deering, Ohio.

Land Deeds for William Allen - Certificate No. 5894 - Vol. 12, page 269 Signed 
by President Van Buren, August 5, 1837.  Certificate No. 10915, Vol 22, Page 
430, Signed by President John Tyler, June 25, 1841.  Registered at Land Office, 
Chillicothe, Ohio, probably now Columbus, Ohio. Information on Land Deeds 
furnished by Dorothy Dean Ward who has the original deeds.

4.  JOHN LEE4 ALLEN (WILLIAM H.3, JAMES ALLEN2 JR., JAMES1 ALLEN) was born 
November 05, 1835 in Lawrence County, Ohio near Ironton, and died January 14, 
1923 in Greenwood Cemetery, West 1/2 lot 20 Sec 9, Council Grove, KS.  He 
married CHARITY ELLA DILLEY December 10, 1867 in Lawrence County, Ohio, 
daughter of ABNER DILLEY and ARMILDA RUSSELL.

Notes for JOHN LEE ALLEN:
He was 87 when he died.

He was a Civil War veteran who served as a Corporal in Company K, Fifth Regiment,
West Virginia infantry, from November 6, 1861 through November 23, 1864.  Later 
he was promoted to Sergeant.  He became sick with typhoid fever at Sperryville, 
VA

He was a member of Wadsworth Post, No 7, Department of Kansas, Grand Army of 
the Republic.

John and Chairty Allen lived on Litte Ice Creek, Ironton, Ohio for the first 
years of their marriage. All 8 children were born in that location.  The family 
came to Kansas in December 1884.  The trip was made to Cincinnati, Ohio by river
boat, then by train to Parkerville, Kansas.  It took three days and nights to
make the trip by train.  Harriet Dilley Stivers, a sister of Charity lived at 
Parkerville, a small town a few miles north of Council Grove, Kansas.  Here the 
family of ten lived in two rooms over the post office for several months before 
moving to a farm owned by Harriet Stivers.  Here they had three rooms and a 
kitchen roof that leaked.  On November 28, 1886 William died of typhoid fever. 
Several other children had the disease but recovered.  In the spring of 1904 
the family moved to Council Grove (See obituary of John L. Allen and his Civil 
War records).

Cemetery lot for John L. Allen and Chairty Ella Allen as listed above, purchased 
October 1917, W F Shamleffer, Mayor, H W Craven, City Clerk.  Recorded in book 
29 of Deeds, page 444.  

Notes for CHARITY ELLA DILLEY:
Schoolteacher and educator, whe came from a wealthy family. She was a great bible
student.

William died of typhoid fever.  He was 18 years of age.

Was the rural mail carrier in Seibert, Colorado until he retired.


	iv.	ALBERT NEWTON ALLEN, b. May 20, 1874, Ice Creek, Ironton, 
	        Lawrence County, Ohio; d. May 16, 1945, Green Wood Cemetery, 
	        North of Council Grove, Kansas; m. ADA MAY BELL, December 25, 
                1900, Alta Vista, Kansas.
 
Grandfather Allen served in the Civil War and was in the Battle of Bull Run.

Albert died of ulcers.

	v.	MILDRED JANE (ARMILDA) ALLEN, b. August 30, 1876; d. August 19, 
	        1964, Manhattan, Kansas; m. EDMUND J HOTCHKISS, April 24, 1901.

Notes for MILDRED JANE (ARMILDA) ALLEN:
Mildred Jane received grade school education in Morris county, KS. and attended 
State Teachers College at Emporia.  Taught several terms of rural school in 
Morris County.  First home after marriage was a farm on Slough Creek between 
Kelso and Council Grove, KS. In 1908, Edmund, Mildred with Allen and Wilma 
homesteaded near Siebert, Colorado.  Lived 14 months in a one room sod house 
which they built with sod plowed from the 160 acre homestead.  Moved to a farm 
five miles west of Council Grove for several years then into Council grove and 
in 1920 to Santa Paula, CA for one year.  Moved to Manhattan, KS in 1921.

Notes for EDMUND J HOTCHKISS:
Edmund was one of the first homesteaders in Eastern Colorado near Seibert.
Edmund died from ulcers.

5.  JAMES MARION4 ALLEN (WILLIAM H.3, JAMES ALLEN2 JR., JAMES1 ALLEN) was born 
    November 27, 1837 in Ohio, and died February 12, 1916 in Ironton, Lawrence 
    County, Ohio.  He married MARY FRANCES WOODS.
