Edward migrated to America about 1851 with his brother George. His
occupation was listed as a farmer prior to 1862. When Edward and George
enlisted in the Union Army 27 Aug 1862, Ed's occupation was reported to be a
carder in a woolen factory.

The brothers served in the 7th Corps until 1863, then the 18th Corps until
it was reorganized in 1865 as the 24th Corps. Edward was a sergeat and
George a corporal.

Edward was wounded in the foot 3 Jun 1864 at the Battle of Cold Harbor, sent
to a hospital on Bellows Island, NY, and then home to recuperate. In the
spring of 1865 he fell on a corduroy road (a road made of logs laid side by
side) an injured his back. This was to bother him the rest of his life and
in 1896 was granted a pension of $12 a month.

After the war, Edward went back to work in the mill, but his back continued
to bother him. Encouraged by a friend, he traveled by rail to Burlington,
KS, and on to Greenwood Co, KS, in 1870. His family arrived in 1871. Ed
bought a 160 acre farm on Otter Creek for $1.25 an acre.

Edward and Anna lived on the farm until @1888 when they moved to Eureka.
After Edward's death, Anna lived on the farm with her son, William.
