The American Methodist Circuit Rider was only two jumps behind Daniel Boone and every other explorer who first ventured into the new territories across America's frontiers. Road conditions were

 less than ideal. Often they rode for miles without seeing any houses, or other humans other than themselves. And they also had to ford very deep and dangerous rivers. But it was this mobility that was an assest to pioneering. Unmarried, the Circuit Rider could pack and be off in five minutes.
